HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THE REAL THING?
Raw honey is very different from artificial honey which contains sugar syrups, molasses, corn syrup, dextrose and other flavors and additives.
Here are some simple home tests to check for honey purity:
THUMB TEST
1. put a small drop of honey on your thumb.
2. Check to see if it spills or spreads around.
3. If it does, it is not pure.
4. Pure honey will stay intact on your thumb.
WATER TEST
1. Fill a glass with water.
2. Add one tablespoon of honey into the glass.
3. Adulterated or artificial honey will dissolve in water and you will see it around the glass.
4. Pure honey will settle right at the bottom of the glass.
THE BREAD TEST
Spread some honey on a slice of bread. If the slice hardens in minutes, it is pure honey. Adulterated honey will wet the bread because of its water content.

Kelulut Honey is produced by stingless bee (Trigona spp.), commonly known as 'Kelulut' in Malaysia, it is slightly sour because it ferments more & studies show that antioxidant properties increase after fermentation. Among the most important substances produced by Kelulut is Propolis, which is produced by bees through saliva mixing with food substances such as pollen, bark, and flowers. Young bees and cocoons of Kelulut are very sensitive to viruses, fungi and pests. To ensure the nest is kept clean & sterile Propolis produced by Kelulut bees functions as Anti-Fungal, Anti-Viral and Anti-Bacterial agent. Propolis has many health benefits, containing 16 Amino Acids, Glucose, Vitamins A, B, C, D and E, Bioflavonoids and Minerals. Bioflavonoids contribute to the smooth running of the human body’s repair systems. It is widely used and consumed by the aborigines and is believed to have better performance than honeybee honey. Kelulut honey is made by trigona is preserved in pods (pictured at the top of this column), built using pollen and propolis is the factor why kelulut is a high potent honey. Kelulut is researched to have high benefits in comparison to bee honey, i.e apis melifera.
The "factory" where the honey is made is not your usual honey bee hives. Itama produces pods like in the picture below, and the pods are covered with resin and pollens.

GELAM HONEY is a Malaysian honey from the flower of Gelam tree (Melaleuca cajuputi) that was collected and produced by Apis mellifera bees.
This honey has been proven to have high flavanoid and phenolic contents. The major phenolics contents that has been identified were ellagic, gallic, and ferulic acids. The researchers also reported that the extracted phenolic and flavanoid content from Gelam honey showed in-vitro anti-inflammatory effect and stated that Gelam honey has a potential therapeutic value in an inflammatory conditions.
Our Gelam is sourced from an area in the east coast of Malaysia, where there is 4km of wild Gelam Forests. There is no pollution in the area because the ground is sandy and it is not a significance area for farming and such. Being close to the seaside it receives plenty of hot sun, which is not suitable for many plants except those native to the area.
Our search for Gelam honey was a wonderful experience, almost like a walking into an enchanted forest. We had a taste of the gelam, it has the Kelat (bitter taste) with sweetness. The combination of those make the honey taste special and pleasant, easy to take. As you take it you can tell it is sourced from a unpolluted area. The honey also gives out a medium strong gelam tree smell.
Many Malaysian researchers have investigated the potential of Gelam honey for health benefit. Gelam honey was shown to have antibacterial effects which are mainly attributed to its phenolic content.
Through our conversation with the research centre in UMT and readings of prior research, Gelam is proven to have excellent antibacterial activity and indicates the usefulness of honey as an antibacterial agent. For more information on Gelam, please refer to the link here:

There are surplus of animal model studies to see the effect of Gelam honey in health; such as, Gelam honey was found to be able to speed up the process of healing when applied topically on excisional wound on rats. Gelam honey was found to be able to reduce the oxidative damage in the liver of Sprague-Dawley rats. Gelam honey in a form of hydrogel may act as burn wound dressing that enhance wound healing and suppress the expression of proinflammatory cytokines.
